I've spent more than twenty years helping businesses run better. When I started freelancing, I expected things to get simpler. I was wrong.

How LockMargin was born

Factories. Retail stores. Service companies. I worked with accountants, managers, economists, business owners. Same job everywhere: find where things break, simplify until people stop complaining, build systems that don't die at 3 AM.

Started freelancing — thought it'd be simpler. Instead I found people juggling ten spreadsheets, three subscriptions, and a constant fear that tomorrow the pricing changes again.

Every tool worked the same way: your data on someone else's server, you pay monthly to reach it. Never liked it. Still don't.

So I started watching how freelancers actually work. Three weeks on Reddit, Discord, coffee shops — just listening. Broke their tools. Asked what pissed them off. Then built what they needed.

December 2025, I started building LockMargin. Wasn't trying to make another invoice app. Wanted a simple operating system for people who work alone. Local. No subscriptions. No someone else's servers.

Today I use LockMargin every day. My projects, invoices, client data — on my machine. Nobody cuts off access because I forgot to pay.

How it is built

LockMargin's still independent. I write the code. I break the features. I answer the emails. Sometimes at 3 AM. Sometimes two days late — but I answer.

Don't do this alone. Ask for help when I need it. A security researcher named Maya told me my encryption was naive. A systems architect from Portugal explained why cron doesn't work offline. I listened. I fixed it.

No venture capital. No board meetings. No growth-at-all-costs decisions.

Just a practical tool from someone who got tired of renting his own software.

Built independently. From Ukraine, with love.

Local-first by default. Cloud on your terms.

LockMargin stores your data on your machine. Not because I'm against the cloud — because you should choose when and how your data leaves your computer.

Three principles

Offline First

Your data on your machine. Period. No cloud sync, no remote servers, no "we'll be right back" pages.

Privacy by Design

AES-256-GCM. Argon2id. Steal my laptop — can't read it without the password. Tested it. On my old Dell Inspiron.

Fair Pricing

Pay once, own forever. $49 for Standard. No subscription, no hidden fees, no "price increase" emails.

This is not a side project. This is my livelihood.

I use LockMargin daily — invoice my clients, track time, watch the money. Every bug I fix blocked my own work yesterday. Every feature I ship is something I needed the day before.

LockMargin will exist as long as I freelance — which means it's not going anywhere.
